Ring doorbell wiring? Here's what to do first
A wired doorbell swap uses the two low-voltage wires already at your door. The trick is finding the right breaker and getting the chime connector right.
DIY with caution
Doable for a careful homeowner — read the safety note first and stop if anything doesn't match what you see.
Intermediate About 60 min
Turn off the doorbell transformer breaker first. No existing wiring, or a transformer you cannot find, means hire an electrician.

What to do, in order
- Step 1: Turn off the doorbell circuit at the breaker and confirm the button is dead.
- Step 2: Unscrew the old button and photograph how the two wires are attached.
- Step 3: Fit the new mounting plate, connect the same two wires to the doorbell terminals.
- Step 4: If required, wire the chime connector inside your existing chime box.
- Step 5: Restore power, pair in the app, and set motion zones so you aren't alerted by the street.
