1. Check whether neighbors have power; if they do, the problem is your panel or service.
2. Report the outage to your utility and check their map for an estimate.
3. Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed — a full freezer holds safely for about 48 hours.
4. Unplug sensitive electronics so the surge on restoration cannot damage them.
5. Run generators outdoors only, well away from windows and doors.
