Garage door won't close? Here's what to do first
Nine times out of ten it is the safety sensors. What you must never touch is the torsion spring above the door.

Never loosen, adjust, or remove the torsion spring, cables, or bottom brackets. They hold enough stored energy to cause serious injury. That work is for a garage door technician.

What to do, in order
- Step 1: Look at the two sensors near the floor: both indicator lights should be steady.
- Step 2: Wipe the lenses and clear anything in the beam path.
- Step 3: Loosen a sensor bracket slightly and nudge it until the lights hold steady, then retighten.
- Step 4: Check the track for a dent or an object under the door.
- Step 5: Test the auto-reverse by placing a 2x4 flat under the door.
