Roof work involves fall risk and is licensed trade work in most cases. Inspect from inside the attic or from the ground only.

What to do, in order

  1. Step 1: Put a bucket under the drip and move anything valuable clear.
  2. Step 2: If the ceiling is bulging, pierce the lowest point with a small hole to let it drain in a controlled way.
  3. Step 3: Go into the attic with a flashlight and trace the wet path back uphill; photograph what you find.
  4. Step 4: Note the date, the weather, and the location for the insurance claim.
  5. Step 5: Schedule a licensed roofer. Do not climb onto a wet or steep roof.
