What to do, in order
- Step 1: Turn the system off at the thermostat.
- Step 2: Open the return grille or the filter slot at the air handler.
- Step 3: Read the size printed on the frame of the old filter before you throw it out.
- Step 4: Slide the new filter in with the airflow arrow pointing toward the furnace or air handler.
- Step 5: Close the grille, restart the system, and write the date on the filter edge.
